AHV
The AHV (old age and survivors' insurance) is the first pillar of the Swiss pension system and the mandatory basic state insurance. It provides a basic amount to cover living expenses in old age (from 65/64 years of age), in the event of disability, and for survivors (widows'/orphans' pensions). It is financed by payroll contributions and federal funds. All persons residing or working in Switzerland are compulsorily insured. However, the AHV pension only covers basic needs.
