True Wealth news: Cost comparison of 3a apps

The independent comparison service Moneyland has calculated the costs incurred by Swiss pension apps. The results show that 3a apps are on average cheaper than traditional pension funds, but many digital providers also charge high fees.

The third pillar is popular in Switzerland and receives special attention toward the end of the year. Not quite a national sport yet, but rapidly gaining popularity, is the combination of pillar 3a and securities savings. This makes sense, as the investment horizon is usually long and those who invest in the third pillar can build up wealth over time. A high proportion of equities helps here. Pension apps make the switch easy and are increasingly replacing traditional pension funds.

But be careful: not everything labeled «digital» is cost-efficient. High fees can throw a spanner in the works. In October 2025, Moneyland calculated the costs incurred by Swiss 3a apps. The simulation assumed an investment amount of CHF 60'000 over an investment horizon of ten years. Payments are made in monthly installments of CHF 500.

The authors' conclusion: «True Wealth has the cheapest offer with a high equity component and a broadly diversified portfolio, with costs between CHF 424 and CHF 635.»

With zero per cent management fees in pillar 3a, True Wealth shook up the market in 2022 and launched a series of innovations. In addition to directly comparable costs, the following questions also arise with regard to investment solutions:

  • Does the provider use tax-optimized pension funds?
  • Does the cash portion earn interest in line with the market?
  • Does the customer automatically receive multiple 3a accounts over time?
  • Is there a mechanism to prevent payments from being forgotten?
  • Has the provider been successful in the market for years?
  • Does it have customer service that is worthy of the name?

If all these points are well fulfilled, your assets have room for growth. You don't have to worry about anything – just make the right decision.
