How is the Pillar 3a payout taxed?
When withdrawing funds from Pillar 3a, capital withdrawal tax is payable. This varies greatly depending on your place of residence, but is generally significantly lower than regular income tax. You can find out the exact amount on the website of your cantonal tax administration.
The following applies to spouses: if capital withdrawals (2nd and/or 3rd pillar) are made by both spouses in the same year, these are added together in most cantons.
To reduce the tax burden, it is worth having several Pillar 3a accounts and withdrawing funds from them in stages over several years. This reduces the tax progression.
